ARE YOU HAVING PROBLEMS VIEWING MY LAST POST?

Greetings....some of you have written to me saying that you couldn't access the interview I just did with author Michael McColly. I think I discovered the problem. If you are having trouble viewing it it might be because you are using Safari. Try using Firefox instead. If you don't have Firefox, you can easily download it for free here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Safari and have had problems with them before. Anyway, sorry about the difficulties in viewing that post. It's not a snafu on this end, it's a browser problem. Also, if any of you have dial-up you will most likely have little issues from time to time.

Anyway, soon I will have some new deadlines for you and then a great interview with writer Kenny Fries. And I am aware that I need to interview some painters and other visual artists, composers, etc. but at the moment, the writers are the ones who, well, shall we say, are really fast in getting back to me so I post these things as they come.

Cheers,

Mira

Actually, the problem isn't with Safari. The problem is with the website not being standards-compliant. You should ask a knowledgeable person to help you get your website "up to code" so that more people can read it more often. It is to your benefit to be accessible to as many modern browsers as possible. And you should know that Safari is a well-built modern browser.

Most people aren't interested in using a separate browser from the one they prefer simply to read one website. This isn't rocket science.

Also, your RSS feed only refers to titles of entries, requiring an unnecessary amount of work for the reader. The more open and accessible your website is, the more people will read it.

Dude, thanks for your comment but please don't beat me with a wet noodle! I do the best I can, living with a traumatic brain injury. Most days I can't even drive fifteen minutes to the store. Anyway, most of the people who wrote me about their problems opening up the last interview couldn't open it with Safari but could with Firefox (or they had dial-up) so that's why I said that about browsers. As for my titles, it's a blogger issue---people have complained on blogger before as it sometimes occurs. I have mine set to show a short snippet but sometimes it only does the title. I ended up setting it to reveal the whole post for now until it gets straightened out. Anyway,I always welcome comments---I read yours on a bad brain day though so sorry if I'm being a crankster! I'm doing the best I can.
Yours, Mirabee, Faithful Grant Servant and Arts Sherpa

Dear Anonymous,

Standards compliant? Internet speed and one's browser cookies and other preferences not withstanding, I'm quite certain Mira's formatting and accessibility issues have to do with Blogger not being up to code, or rather, Blogger making senseless changes over the past year to their posting format requirements. And personally, only getting titles in the RSS feed isn't a problem since it simply lets me know there is a new posting. I think the amount of "work" it takes to check out a new posting is minuscule compared to the amount it takes Mira to do the research for a given posting. And she charges not a penny for her time.

I agree, the more accessible Miraslist is, the more people will read it. Perhaps someone out there in cyberspace has an in with the Blogger techs? Don't be shy.

I didn't mean to come across as unappreciative of the time it takes to write, edit, and upload these posts. I'm sorry if I did.

Blogger software or no, it is still her website, and in that sense, her destiny to control. There are other platforms she can port to if she must. As I said before, I think it's unfortunate that she's not reaching all the people she could (myself included, on bad brain days of my own variety).

A wordpress hosted (rather than manually installed) would be a great place to start for standards compliant and non-buggy content and RSS feeds.

Welcome to Mira's List

This blog provides information on upcoming grants, fellowships and residencies for artists, writers, composers, and media artists. It is for serious professionals only, from emerging to mid-career to established. I also publish information for graduate students from time to time. However, I do not publish information on exhibition or publishing opportunities, nor do I advertise artist retreats and workshops that charge money. At least that is my current policy. For more info on where to exhibit or publish, please see my links section which I try to periodically update. I sift through hundreds of search engines and websites to find opportunities for YOU dear artist. In return, I ask you to pass the information along to those who need it. Also, since this is a free blog, I don't always have the time to weed carefully through everything. If you find a grant or website or residency that is not up-to-date, is dodgy in some way, or is no longer in existence, please let me know! Also, if you stay somewhere at one of the residencies I suggest and have a good experience, I want that feedback too. Please check my FAQs at the top right side bar if you have questions before starting your search. Best wishes and happy hunting!
