Mirabee Won a Big Contest and You Can Too!

Hey everyone, long time no see! It has been a whirlwind of craziness. A few weeks ago I found out that I was short listed for something called The National Book Critics Circle Award for Best Autobiography. It was a big deal and I was incredibly surprised. There is no financial award for this but it is a very prestigious thing to be nominated because the people nominating you and deciding on the awards are all the top literary critics in the country. So after reading in NYC this week with all the other finalists, amazing writers, many of whom I have loved and read throughout the years, I found out on Thursday that I actually WON Best Autobiography. Needless to say, it is all very surreal. If you would like to read more about the award and the NBCC, please go here: http://bookcritics.org/blog/archive/for-immediate-release-nbcc-award-winners-for-publishing-year-2011

I do have a bunch of new things to post and also, I want to remind you that the MIRA'S LIST ART CONTEST 2012 DEADLINE IS COMING UP! March 31st! So go here for details—students and newbies welcome, along with established artists: http://www.miraslist.com/p/contests.html

Once again, please excuse the ugliness of this website. I haven't had time to make it look great. As you know, I do this for free and I'm just a little guy, trying to make ends meet here, so my freebie activities get pushed to the back burner from time to time.

More to come soon....

xoxo Mirabee

Congratulations on your award. Very well deserved--and you should also receive an award for everything you do for writers!

Congratulations! I heard you reading from the book on WFCR recently... missed the beginning of the segment, so I didn't know what I was listening to at first, just that I was completely drawn in. Looking forward to reading it!

Congrats, Mira! Sweet!

Welcome to Mira's List

This blog provides information on upcoming grants, fellowships and residencies for artists, writers, composers, and media artists. It is for serious professionals only, from emerging to mid-career to established. I also publish information for graduate students from time to time. However, I do not publish information on exhibition or publishing opportunities, nor do I advertise artist retreats and workshops that charge money. At least that is my current policy. For more info on where to exhibit or publish, please see my links section which I try to periodically update. I sift through hundreds of search engines and websites to find opportunities for YOU dear artist. In return, I ask you to pass the information along to those who need it. Also, since this is a free blog, I don't always have the time to weed carefully through everything. If you find a grant or website or residency that is not up-to-date, is dodgy in some way, or is no longer in existence, please let me know! Also, if you stay somewhere at one of the residencies I suggest and have a good experience, I want that feedback too. Please check my FAQs at the top right side bar if you have questions before starting your search. Best wishes and happy hunting!
