interesting thread. btw, do not see on schedule where events are noted as being free (no indication that mira's panel is free). there are some notations that events are free to conference attendees, which is different from being free to walk-ins. didn't see anything about any sessions being open to the general public.

also grants/scholarhips are very limited in number regardless of advance planning -- and have restrictions that lock some of us out of being considered -- complaint about expenses in no way is a criticism of the value of the conference. a singl-day option would go a long way in allowing more people to attend what does sound like an exceptional opportunity. if you're on the planning board,

cost issue has nothign to do with "willing" -- simply do not have the funds (for registration and hotel and transport) -- and have been to many conferences that are less costly and that all offer single-day options.
