New Artist Residency in the Phillippines

Good morning everyone. Just so you know, the 2012 Art Contest is officially closed. Winners will be announced on my website later this month.

Here is a new residency—I don't know anything about it but it is in a region where there are few if any residencies so although you must pay a small amount to stay there, it could be a very interesting experience:

(ARTISTS) the Ang Bahay ng Sining Artist Residency in the PhillippinesAng Bahay ng Sining or The House of Art is an artist-in-residence program directed to international or local artists which aims to create a cultural exchange between artists and the community. It is an art house for artists who would like to create an art project in collaboration with the local people. Great opportunities lie within this dwelling which implores the result of a mutual trade of ideas, inspiration and experience between diverse cultures. It also serves as a meeting place designed to bring people from different ethnic traditions, backgrounds and walks of life closer to each other which opens a gateway to creating and sharing beautiful moments full of passion in creativity and in life.

Project Objective:
The main objective of Ang Bahay ng Sining is to increase community awareness pertaining to the different mediums in the field of visual arts, music and other artistic crafts which aims to establish Quezon City as the premier arts, culture, music and design hub in Metro Manila.

Disciplines: Drawing/Painting, Film, Media Art, Multi Media, New Media, Performance Art, Photography, Sculpture

Language: English

Location: Ang Bahay ng Sining is located within a commercial road in the center of the vibrant city of Quezon City.

Outcome:

A final exhibition of works will be presented at the end of the residency program wherein the artists would be showcasing their public artworks to the general public at the Bario Obrero Street Art Festival. Artists may also have the opportunity to facilitate outreach programs such as talks, workshops and exhibitions, intended to promote interaction and professional development within the community.

Duration: The artist-in-residence program will invite  artists to stay from 1-3 months.

Paid by artist:
The artist would have to pay for their own travel expenses, health insurance, materials, food and personal needs. The residency’s accommodation costs $250 a month which covers wi-fi internet, technical and administrative support and utility expenses. We would, however, be more than happy to help the participants in providing any official letter or support letters if required. Click this link to get information on how to pay.

Paid by host:
Ang Bahay ng Sining would be offering technical and administrative help, assistance in projects involving wood and metal and electrical; we offer low-prices for photographic prints, canvasses, painting materials and in framing artworks; and promotion of the artist’s and their projects. We will also be giving a free service to and from the airport; free buffet meals every weekend.

Application Guidelines and Criteria:
Artists must be active in the field of contemporary art with an interest in exploration and production of collaborative work during the residency period.

The Bahay ng Sining is geared towards emerging artists to mid-career and established artists who wish to develop their projects or create new ones within the urban halls of Quezon City. It is expected that the artists will be active in engaging with the dynamic environment of the city and use the opportunity to help inspire and contribute to the growth of the local Art scene.

Welcome to Mira's List

This blog provides information on upcoming grants, fellowships and residencies for artists, writers, composers, and media artists. It is for serious professionals only, from emerging to mid-career to established. I also publish information for graduate students from time to time. However, I do not publish information on exhibition or publishing opportunities, nor do I advertise artist retreats and workshops that charge money. At least that is my current policy. For more info on where to exhibit or publish, please see my links section which I try to periodically update. I sift through hundreds of search engines and websites to find opportunities for YOU dear artist. In return, I ask you to pass the information along to those who need it. Also, since this is a free blog, I don't always have the time to weed carefully through everything. If you find a grant or website or residency that is not up-to-date, is dodgy in some way, or is no longer in existence, please let me know! Also, if you stay somewhere at one of the residencies I suggest and have a good experience, I want that feedback too. Please check my FAQs at the top right side bar if you have questions before starting your search. Best wishes and happy hunting!
