(ARTISTS/ANIMATORS) Tiny Circus Summer Session; A Collaborative Animation Residency
Deadline Information: May 25, 2012
Location: Grinnell, IA, June 15 – July 15 (short and long term opportunities)
Artistic Discipline: Stop-motion Animation, Collaborative Art Practice, Community Art Creation
Contact Information: [email protected]

Tiny Circus is a community-based collaborative art project that uses stop-motion animation to make and tell stories. Our animations are simple and accessible, as they have been created with a broad audience in mind. The short films we create with groups of all ages are projected in public spaces from a vintage airstream trailer, a rolling magic lantern. We hope to inspire audiences to reconsider the ways that we use assumptions, beliefs and storytelling to order our world.

During the Summer Session we take a break from travel and intensive workshops and work together in Grinnell, Iowa on as-of-yet unfathomed projects – animation and collaboration will be central to our work, as well as envisioning new ways to communicate stories and ideas. Our 2012 summer session will run from June 15 to July 15 in Grinnell, Iowa. We are looking for both short and long term participants with varied skills and an interest in collaborative community art creation. No specific experience is necessary. Each participant pays $10/day; this covers food (much from our own garden), stay in a wonderful big old house, and materials. If you are interested in circusing this summer, please download and fill out the Summer Participant Application Form with your availability and anticipated length of stay. Email the form and a resume to [email protected] with “Summer Participant Applicant” in subject line. We'll contact you by email to set up a phone interview. For more info, go to:

Welcome to Mira's List

This blog provides information on upcoming grants, fellowships and residencies for artists, writers, composers, and media artists. It is for serious professionals only, from emerging to mid-career to established. I also publish information for graduate students from time to time. However, I do not publish information on exhibition or publishing opportunities, nor do I advertise artist retreats and workshops that charge money. At least that is my current policy. For more info on where to exhibit or publish, please see my links section which I try to periodically update. I sift through hundreds of search engines and websites to find opportunities for YOU dear artist. In return, I ask you to pass the information along to those who need it. Also, since this is a free blog, I don't always have the time to weed carefully through everything. If you find a grant or website or residency that is not up-to-date, is dodgy in some way, or is no longer in existence, please let me know! Also, if you stay somewhere at one of the residencies I suggest and have a good experience, I want that feedback too. Please check my FAQs at the top right side bar if you have questions before starting your search. Best wishes and happy hunting!
