Artist Residencies in Michigan, Ohio, Montreal and NYC

(ARTISTS) Session Artists Residency, NYCSession is  an artists residency program based out of NYC's Recess, a nonprofit artists workspace that is open to the public. Session artists receive 2-3 months in one of our storefront spaces, a small honorarium, and a materials stipend (between $500-$2500).  The opportunity is open to artists around the world.

Recess is free and open to the public, and we encourage artists to engage with their audience in a manner specific to their creative goals, using Recess as a studio, exhibition space, stage, and/or experimental platform. Artists have access to their space for the full duration of their residency and are expected to work on a daily basis or the equivalent of at least twenty hours per week. They will be given a small honorarium and a stipend based on the material needs of their residency. In conversation with Recess staff, artists designate their own work hours and the degree to which they coincide with public hours.

Applications are due March 15, 2012 and the program is open to visual and performance artists. Full information can be found here: http://www.recessart.org/play/apply.

(ARTISTS) Maker Works Residency in Southeast MichiganMaker Works is an 11,000 sq. ft. member-based fabrication studio located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It features 4 studio areas: Metal, Circuits, Wood and Craft. Each studio has state of the art tools that most could not afford as well as other tools such as sewing machines, power saws, and welding.

During the months of June- August, Maker Works will host 3 resident visual artists of any medium from the Southeast Michigan area.  The intention behind a Maker Works Residency is to give Southeast Michigan artists access to tools that are cost prohibitive for most, such as CNC machines, a laser cutter, and more. Artists applying should seek to push the boundaries of their knowledge and be willing to explore new tools along with using the tools they may already know.  All resident artists will be trained on the tools, have access to project storage space, computers & software and other amenities for free. There are 3 categories in which to apply: Craft, Conceptual and Emerging. Maker Works Residencies are 1-month and do not include housing, food or transportation. Postmark deadline is March 15, 2012. For further details about the tools and how to apply, please visit www.maker-works.com.

Welcome to Mira's List

This blog provides information on upcoming grants, fellowships and residencies for artists, writers, composers, and media artists. It is for serious professionals only, from emerging to mid-career to established. I also publish information for graduate students from time to time. However, I do not publish information on exhibition or publishing opportunities, nor do I advertise artist retreats and workshops that charge money. At least that is my current policy. For more info on where to exhibit or publish, please see my links section which I try to periodically update. I sift through hundreds of search engines and websites to find opportunities for YOU dear artist. In return, I ask you to pass the information along to those who need it. Also, since this is a free blog, I don't always have the time to weed carefully through everything. If you find a grant or website or residency that is not up-to-date, is dodgy in some way, or is no longer in existence, please let me know! Also, if you stay somewhere at one of the residencies I suggest and have a good experience, I want that feedback too. Please check my FAQs at the top right side bar if you have questions before starting your search. Best wishes and happy hunting!
