AFRICAN RESIDENCIES AND HOW TO FUND THEM

(ALL) SEARCH ENGINE FOR ARTS OPPORTUNITIES IN AFRICA
Africinfo.org
Africinfo.org is the website for the RICAFE network (cultural information network in Africa and Europe) that aims to solve problems with the distribution of cultural information.
The newsletter and diary relay information from the network to provide "live" information on cultural activities in Africa.
This is a great site! The mothership of Afro-info for all the arts. For more info, go to: http://www.africinfo.org/index.asp?navig=evenements&no_rubrique=5#
**If you don't speak French, make sure you click on "English" for the websites in this posting.

(ALL) PAN AFRICAN CIRCLE OF ARTISTS
Le Cercle Pan-Africain des Artistes
http://www.panafricanartists.org/aboutus.htm
The Pan-African Circle of Artists was established as a forum for the promotion of art and culture on the African continent.
It champions the cause of art through diverse means, including exhibitions, seminars, workshops, folklore sessions, slide talks, lectures, publications, etc.
Pan-African Circle of Artists is fast earning an international reputation and has remained so far one of the very few truly professional art associations operating inside Africa today.
Within the bounds of the principles of new internationalism, Pan-African Circle of Artist's main concern has been the creation of a home-grown voice for the continued dissemination of the arts of African on Africa's own terms.

(ALL AFRIQUE PROFONDE RESIDENCY IN THE CONGO
Afrique Profonde, Pointe-Noire, Congo-Brazzaville
http://www.afriqueprofonde.org
AFRIQUE PROFONDE ("Deep Africa") began in 1998 through the work of Marius Billy, a musician from a small village in the interior of Congo. AFRIQUE PROFONDE became a member of RES ARTIS in 2000. The purpose of the program is to promote cultural exchange and dialogue, internationally and locally, by bringing together artists from diverse cultural backgrounds with artists in the Republic of Congo and Africa. AFRIQUE PROFONDE also strives to preserve and promote traditional cultures in Africa while advocating the basic human rights and respect of marginalised peoples.
AFRIQUE PROFONDE offers a 1 to 3 month residency in the Republic of Congo, based out of the Atlantic coastal city of Pointe-Noire. Residencies are one to three months, available from February-May, June-September, and October-December.
Artists are encouraged to participate in the one-month tour into the deep interior which occurs at the beginning of the Spring and Summer sessions. During this tour, artists will find profound inspiration for the remainder of their residency from meeting different groups of Pygmies, experiencing the wonders of the deep forest, and sharing in a cultural exchange with Bantu artisans. See website (www.afriqueprofonde.org) to download an application in .pdf format.
Community projects with local schools, AIDS patients, CCF projects, and other organizations might be arranged. For more information, please visit the website or email Marius Billy: marius(at)afriqueprofonde.org; info(at)afriqueprofonde.org
To find more opportunities in Africa and other countries, I defer to the wonderful Res Artis and Trans Artists. They are free search engines for international residencies. The Alliance of Artists Communities is excellent as well. Their site costs $25 a year to join. The links are on my sidebar to the right of this post. For more information on how to FUND a study trip to Africa or a residency there, please go to http://www.transartists.nl/funding/funding_in_africa.58.html for a list of funding possibilities.

Welcome to Mira's List

This blog provides information on upcoming grants, fellowships and residencies for artists, writers, composers, and media artists. It is for serious professionals only, from emerging to mid-career to established. I also publish information for graduate students from time to time. However, I do not publish information on exhibition or publishing opportunities, nor do I advertise artist retreats and workshops that charge money. At least that is my current policy. For more info on where to exhibit or publish, please see my links section which I try to periodically update. I sift through hundreds of search engines and websites to find opportunities for YOU dear artist. In return, I ask you to pass the information along to those who need it. Also, since this is a free blog, I don't always have the time to weed carefully through everything. If you find a grant or website or residency that is not up-to-date, is dodgy in some way, or is no longer in existence, please let me know! Also, if you stay somewhere at one of the residencies I suggest and have a good experience, I want that feedback too. Please check my FAQs at the top right side bar if you have questions before starting your search. Best wishes and happy hunting!
